What are the options for valves in NJ?

By Fred Flynt

What is a valve? What are the different types of valves? These two questions need to be answered if you are doing any type of plumbing. A valve gives the ability to regulate the flow inside a pipe. A valve can control a fluid or a gas. There are automatic valves and manual valves. Here is a list of some of the valves you will see:

Gas cock valve or stall cock valve This valve controls the flow of gas. They give the ability to regulate the flow of gas to an appliance BBQ or any gas powered machine. The Cock or handle gives the user control.

Boiler drain valve This valve is used in hot water or hot fluid situations. As the name says it is for boiler drains. They usually come with a turning handle to control the flow of fluids.

Sillcock valve Here you have a decorative outdoor indoor valve with a petcock type handle. This valve comes in many diameters to fit individual needs.

Ball valve. This valve uses a ball inside to cut off the flow of gas or liquid. Pressure can force the ball to close of a pipe area to stop the flow. The ball valve is a good online safety valve.

Ball check valves. The ball check valve stops the fluid from going back where it came from. The ball check valve is an online safety device.

Check Valves , There are many types of check valves. The primary purpose of a check valve is to prevent the fluid from returning to where it was just pumped from. When pumping a fluid out of a basement when the pump turns off you do not want all the fluid in the hose to flow back into your basement here is an example of where you would use a check valve.

Below are the different types of valves that are available in NJ for use as a check and flow valves. Many NJ plumbing supply stores might have these parts. In NJ check valves are a common item with sump pumps and submersible sump pumps. Many homeowners have saved much heartache by getting the right check valve to complete their pumping needs.

Do valves break?

The answer is yes. The valves can where out through use or can have tremor happen to break them. Either way you need to find the right replace that is why you need to know what a ball valve is. What a check valve is. What a cut off valve is. What a sillcock valve is and why you would use it. What is a gas cock valve and when would you use it.
