- Finish Application Guide: “Cutting” Type Compounds should be used on heavy duty, aggressive cloth buffing wheels to generate rapid stock removal. Since a film normally results from this operation, it should be followed by a “color” operation using a soft cloth buffing wheel combined with the appropriate “color” compound to achieve a clean, lustrous surface. “Cut and Color” procedures are compromises intended to generate acceptable finishes in one operation where dictated by economy. Types of buffing wheels may vary for these uses. Buffing wheels should be reserved for each type of compound. Different types of compounds should not be applied to the same wheel.
